This WEB page is Nils’ ‘Morgengabe’ to Gitte.

‘Morgengabe’ (morning gift) is the little present a husband-in-spe is supposed to give his wife-in-spe the morning after the wedding. At least Danes do so. And vice versa.

So, min lille scat, here we are — two certainly adult people of different nationalities, most likely behaving like young chicken, somewhere in the North of Denmark, waiting to be called into Ebeltoft Rådhus to say YES.

When I am looking back it seems quite strange but shortly after we had met I was sure that there she was — the one I had in mind when I was thinking about the ‘woman of my dreams’.

Then we started living together, we went through bad, and good times, we bought a house, got friends and a cat down here in Germany — and it felt just ... right, natural.

This is why I am not nervous today: Because I KNOW that we are doing the right thing, I am sure about it.

But, yes, I am certainly excited, then there is ONE thing I do not know how it feels: to call you my wife. — And for once I will rather use the German expression ‘meine Frau’, because it sounds so tender in my ears. (You remember the story I told you?)

Gitte, meine Frau: Time for promises ... but you will get only one because it includes all the other possible ones: I promise to be always with you, I will always be there for you, in good, and in bad times. No Amen ...

Sounds simple but might be hard work — for both of us.

I am very much looking forward to go this long road on your side.

I love you,

Nils
